To New Beginnings (As a UX Designer)
Early in 2022, I decided to return full-time to my first professional love… Graphic Design. I am currently a higher education professional, and have previously worked as an in-house designer. I have worked as an external design consultant for that in-house team for the past 5 years. As I began my job search and fell into the deep abyss of the latest news in design research and trends, I became increasingly aware of the impact UX/UI design is having on our communities. I started reading blogs and articles on sites like UX Collective, Interaction Design Foundation, and the Nielson Norman Group, and of course spending hours listening to amateur and experienced designers’ thoughts on YouTube. I was hooked. As a graphic designer, I appreciate the impact of effective use of shape, color, and text to craft a visually compelling user experience. As an administrator, I appreciate the complexities of inclusive interaction design standards used to meet the needs of all users. And as a higher education professional, I understand the importance of conducting ethical research practices that benefit users, stakeholders and UX teams.
I am almost done with the Google UX Certificate program, and I will talk more about that in another post, but so-far-so-good. With the pending recession, I have seen many signs that securing a UX Designer position may be difficult. By the end of 2023 I will be in a new role that will further my journey to becoming a UX/UI professional. If you want something, speak it into existence. It may be difficult, but it is possible.
